Renting in Bangsar
Leafy, central and one LRT stop from KL Sentral. Very liveable, and priced like it.
- Best for
- Professionals, couples, families
- 2-bed condo
- ~RM2,500 – 5,000
- Train
- LRT Kelana Jaya Line
- To KL Sentral
- 1 LRT stop
In short
- Three areas in one: Bangsar Baru, leafy landed hills, newer Bangsar South.
- One LRT stop from KL Sentral and the airport train.
- Bangsar South: newer condos for less.
- Downside: parking and weekend traffic.
The vibe
Bangsar is established, green and social. The heart is Bangsar Baru, around Jalan Telawi, where rows of shophouses hold cafés, restaurants, bars and small shops. Around it are hilly streets of bungalows and semi-detached homes, plus mid-sized condos, many from the 1990s and 2000s.
Bangsar South, to the south across the Federal Highway, feels different: newer high-rise condos and offices around Nexus and The Sphere, popular with young professionals.
Who it suits
- Professionals working in KL Sentral, Mid Valley, the city centre or Bangsar South itself.
- Couples and singles who want to walk to a good coffee and dinner.
- Families who want a landed home in a central, established area and have the budget.

Getting around
Public transport
The LRT Kelana Jaya Line stops at Bangsar, and at Abdullah Hukum and Kerinchi for Bangsar South. KL Sentral is one stop from Bangsar station, with connections to the KLIA Ekspres airport train, KTM trains, the monorail and MRT. Mid Valley also has a KTM Komuter station.
Walking to the LRT is realistic from parts of Bangsar and most of Bangsar South. But Bangsar is hilly and not always shaded, so check the actual walk.
Driving and traffic
Bangsar is central and well connected via Jalan Bangsar, the Federal Highway and the SPRINT and Kerinchi Link roads. Expect jams on Jalan Bangsar at peak times and around Mid Valley on weekends and public holidays. Parking in Bangsar Baru can be hard in the evenings.
Schools
There are established national and private schools in and around Bangsar. Several international schools are a 15–30 minute drive away, depending on traffic. If school is a priority, tell me which ones you're considering and I'll look for homes that keep the school run short.
Shopping, food and daily life
- Bangsar Village I & II and Bangsar Shopping Centre: upmarket groceries, cafés and services.
- Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens: one of KL's biggest shopping complexes, just next door.
- Nexus Bangsar South and KL Eco City: newer malls for the Bangsar South side.
- Jalan Telawi: cafés, restaurants, bars and a popular weekly night market.
Pros and cons
What's good
- Central, with LRT access
- One stop to KL Sentral and the airport train
- Excellent food and cafés
- Choice of condos and landed homes
What to weigh up
- Higher rents in Bangsar proper
- Hard parking in Bangsar Baru
- Weekend traffic near Mid Valley
- Some condos are showing their age
My tips for renting here
- Decide: Bangsar or Bangsar South? Same name, different lifestyle and price. View one of each before you choose.
- Walk to the station yourself. “5 minutes to LRT” in a listing sometimes means 5 minutes by car.
- For landed homes, ask about security. Is there a guarded community scheme, what's the monthly fee, and who pays it?
- Check noise. Units right above the Telawi strip can be lively until late.
